Programs for the Children

  • New Jersey law now requires that every child under the age of eight OR weighing less than 80 pounds MUST use a car seat.  We have three certified Child Passenger Safety technicians and encourage residents to call upon them.
  • Every May, we conduct a program at the Kindergarten Workshop sponsored by the PTO.
  • We fingerprint youngsters at several venues throughout the year.
  • Once a year, an officer visits every class at every elementary school to reinforce the School Bus Safety message.
  • An officer is in residence at the High School one day a week as part of a low-key "resource" program to help students get comfortable talking with police officers.
  • Qualified officers conduct the D.A.R.E. drug abuse program in all the 5th grade classes.
  • We have an aggressive Bike Safety Program and we sponsor an annual Bike Rodeo.

Programs in our Neighborhoods

  • Long Hill Police support the Crime Victim's Bill of Rights.  Read about those rights, victim/witness protection and a summary of the procedures in the criminal justice system.
  • We have a variety of Crime Prevention programs, including home security surveys and National Night Out which is hosted by the Long hill Township Office of Emergency Management.
  • Residents can request additional Vacation Surveillance of their home.
  • The Neighborhood Watch groups in Long Hill cover about one third of the households.
  • In mid-2001, we organized a Domestic Crisis Response Team to provide a trained cadre of civilians to handle the emotional and non-police needs of the victims of domestic violence.
  • With the AARP, we sponsor the 55 Alive driving skills program for seniors twice a year.
  • We sponsor an active troop of Police Explorers.

On June 2, 2002, four members of the Long Hill Police Department participated in the Tour De Cure.  This bicycle tour extended 30 miles through Chatham, Long Hill and Harding.  The tour raised $157,000.00 for diabetes research, information and advocacy.

"Team Long Hill Police" was responsible for raising over $1,900.00 for the ADA.  Shown here are team members Aaron Buerstetta, Gary Bauer, John Kiseli and Chris Gelino.
